WALK WITH ME follows the filmmaker David Hodge as he adjusts from a car-dependent American city to an eminently walkable Scandinavian city. As he explores his new home and rediscovers the richness of life on foot, David reflects on memories, including childhood walks with his grandfather and more adult ones with Steve Jobs during his time as a designer at Apple. He also reflects on his more recent conversations with thought-leaders he interviewed for LIFE ON WHEELS, a film that focused on mobility and current infrastructure.

In his walks, Hodge also connects with a former mayor, a physician, a neuroscientist, an urban planner, and a wildlife tracker. Through meandering conversations, he documents the personal, philosophical, and political implications of a world where no one walks — as well as what happens when one starts walking again.

Overall, Walk with Me looks at the consequences of American immobilization on public health. Hodge explores how walking contributes to community power: why people walk to protest and celebrate, why we take walks to settle our minds, and why walking in nature has beneficial effects on psychology.

Running roughly 55 minutes, WALK WITH ME blends personal narrative with prominent societal themes, but at its heart, it’s a simple invitation for all of us to lace up our shoes and go for a walk.
